HOW TO USE WASHI TAPE: IN YOUR HOME - #1 DIY wall pattern
i am an interiors freak – so after i’ve binged one of my favourite interior design shows, i had a sudden surge of inspiration. the wall i already bought the green paint for, now seemed too plain to paint just in one color. i needed a thin painter’s masking tape. but it was a sunday in Austria. and NOTHING is open on sundays in Austria. so i had an idea. since i design my own washi tape, i had tons of samples from manufacturers of washi tape that was not to my taste – and is there a more perfect way to reuse all that washi tape? i think not.
i’m not saying that you should use your favourite washi tape for this, oh no. but as it is with many of us stationery lovers, sometimes we buy stuff we don’t really need. so maybe, just maybe, there’s a couple of rolls of washi, hidden somewhere in a drawer, that you maybe don’t need anymore. just maybe.
and if you were wondering where to buy more pretty washi tape – have a look here.
so, i was going for this geometrical pattern, that was supposed to give the wall a 3d effect. and this is how i did it.
# step 1
measure the distance between the vertical stripes that divides your wall into somewhat equal parts. with my wall it was ca. 40cm between each stripe.
# step 2
choose the washi tape you want to sacrifice and paste the vertical stripes.
# step 3
fill the gaps between the vertical stripes! i had a “rhythm” to it – see the pictures below
# step 4
when all the washi has been pasted on the wall – it’s time for painting! choose your colour and go for it! (i also had to go over it a couple of times for an even look)
# step 5
the satisfaction. peel the washi tape off.
et voila!
you got yourself a super cool DIY wall – go you!
what do you think about this washi DIY? blasphemy or cool?
